PRESS RELEASE

Morono Kiang Gallery presents Faraway, So Close, a group exhibition of Photographs taken in Los Angeles between 1980 and 1989. The exhibition will run from February 4 – March 31, 2012. The opening reception will be held on Saturday February 4th from 6-9 pm.

Faraway, So Close is curated by Shervin Shahbazi and features works by Sara Jane Boyers, Edward Colver, Willie Middlebrook, Ann Summa, May Sun, Mark Vallen, and Richard Wyatt.

The artists in the exhibit have all built their careers on looking at Los Angeles and entreating others to do the same. Their Photographs highlight some of the unique moments in Los Angeles during the ’80s. While some of the images have been published in books or in newsprint, most of them have rarely been exhibited. Faraway, So Close brings together a collection of works that represent a wide spectrum of vantage points capturing moments that only occurred once. Each photograph is a certificate of presence that leads us back to a time that will never be repeated but upon reflection makes the viewer contemplate what has changed and what remains the same.
